According to Sky News, Around nine million people have legally claimed Sony Interactive Entertainment for “overpricing” their PlayStation games. The users have blamed the company for “ripping people off” through games and in-game purchases on its play store, says the outlet. Approximate damage to every individual is around 67 pounds (₹6,317)-562 pounds (₹52,988), excluding interest. According to the reports of Sky News, Alex Neill, Rights Champion, is the reason for the collective action of nine million people against the Japanese company. Their legal action says “consumers have been overcharged by as much as five billion pounds ( ₹4,71,25,85,06,250) in the past six years.” Additionally, the complainants took into consideration all the purchases made via PlayStation Store or add-on content of the gaming console or in the UK games since August 19, 2016. According to the outlet reports, these nine million users are likely entitled to recompense. Moreover, These nine million people claim that Sony has earned a 30 percent commission on every in-game or digital game purchase made on the PlayStation Store. But Sony has not yet made any official comments on these claims. Neill expressed to Sky News, “The game is up for Sony PlayStation. With this legal action, I am standing up for the millions of UK people who have been unwittingly overcharged. We believe Sony has abused its position and ripped off its customers.” “The actions of Sony are costing millions of people who cannot afford it, particularly when we are in the midst of a cost of living crisis and the consumer purse is being squeezed like never before,” Neill added. According to recent reports, Due to increased expenses of the $3.6 billion acquisition of game studio Bungie, Sony has dropped its profit guidance for this fiscal year (which will end next march). Still, the company is expecting weaker earnings through its game division. Although sales in the games segment grew two percent yearly for the three months till June, that was raised by the weak yen. Sony’s operating profit in its game business fell 37%, consequently in the last quarter the company had to experience a hindrance in its key earning driver.
